INTER-SCHOOL ACTIVITIES

Ahoy Academia! We at S.I. declare: The recession is Over and a Depression well underway! Our new Voyage Plan expanded our range of advertising, and increased our special offer promotions straining the time allotted for monitoring the changes underway in CG licensing of Sailors or QSS Auditing of Schools.

We believe that the licensing changes will require scores of new Courses which we schools must compose while we ponder who will assume Oversight of our staff and facilities – Capt. Ed Schultz (203-400-5321) has the con and our pen on these issues. Read the Captain’s E-newsletter under the MAP link to hear another expert’s take on these happenings and you’ll see why we call Ed “The Godfather of Licensing.”

Requests for SI letters of support for Your issues should be addressed to Ed.Schultz@SIatSH.org.

Ed is also working on SIatSH achieving Trusted Agent status from USCG-NMC along with pursuing other opportunities for SI to better serve US Sailors, Servants, and Schools.

Recognizing that Oversight of maritime academic facilities may fall to either DnV or ABS the Seaman’s Institute assembled a group of experienced Auditors that will perform QSS Pre-audits for Schools today while forming this third Provider. Company Name suggestions are appreciated and Auditor applications are available at 718-442-5171.

It was a pleasure meeting many of you at CG NY Harbor Operations Committee meeting in January, and at the Maritime Education Standards Counsel (MESC) event at the NMC in November.

With its overwhelming presence at the NMC’s pre-Training for Trusted Agents, MESC (mes-cee) became a coalition that SI participates with for our national school-administration news, legislative affairs, referrals, cooperatives, and bi-annual fun times.

There is plenty of room at MESC for representatives from any maritime Agency, Academy, Institution, School, Prep-Center, Instructors, Elected Officials, and there’s even room for the tables of our Vender Associates. Interested Principals may contact MESC the Maritime Education Standards Counsel toll-free at 877-883-9366.

Authors – The Seaman’s Institute is procuring quality versions of the series of OICNW, RFPEW, RFPNW, QMED, and DDE courses. Complete Course packages must include electronic, disc, and hard copies of: CG Course Approval Certificate, Compliant SI-NMC Course Submission Packet, Instructor & Student Manual, Texts, & Supporting Media, with a sample of any manipulatives contained in the course.
Authors should contact Capt. Vince Claps by writing to him at Admin@SIatSH.org.

Instructors – There are job openings in NYC. Mail hard copies of your Resume, Licenses, Certificates, and a list of the Courses of interest to Seaman’s Institute Corp. 1000 Richmond Terrace, Staten Island, NY 10301 and then please e-mail a Resume to Admin@SIatSH.org
