Coast Guard License Original and Renewal Requirements for Wheelhouse, Engineroom and Deck Department mariners are undergoing major changes to the physical, examination and assessment requirements. In consultation and cooperation with other marine schools, Capt. Schultz is watching out daily for we Sailors and Schools; for errors, omissions and conflicts; and he is prepared to discuss what they mean with you at 203-400-5321. Should you get the answering machine, please leave a brief Bio, a phone number, and prepare for a meaningful consultation by gathering together your TWIC, MMC, License, sea service letters, supporting documents, resume, maritime academic records, physical exam, and/or Coast Guard Application blank, and a frosted mug.
Academic Calendar – The Calendar has been Updated, Projected out to 6 Months, and it’s Posted on the SIatSH website. The Course Calendar Rotation was stabilized by starting the monthly series of courses on the First Friday of each month and going non-stop for 25 days – such that our Fleet Training Days are preserved. Master 2/5/1600’s – February 2010 is FREE for a four day session covering the Coast Guard Exam Modules over 200GT, with SI Assessments, Lectures, Study Resource Consolidation, Limited review of 200 & 100GT exam exercises and Stump the Instructor.
Master-Limited Launch – The Coast Guard License that is required for many Marina and Yacht Club Launch/Yawl Operators that carry passengers is available by RSVP.
Boater Safety Certificates – The Seaman’s Institute at Snug Harbor is the approved N.Y. State Exam Facility for the greater New York Harbor region and provides the 8 Hour Certificate course in One Day sessions. The NY/NJ/50 State Boater Safety course is required by some States for some recreational vessel Operators upon their waters.
Job Placement Assistance – The SI JOBS Booklet listing Marine Employers Coast-to Coast is on the website and is available for pick-up for FREE. Capt. Vince Claps is working on getting several SIatSH Courses approved for College Credits – someday SI Alumni will be able to indicate “some college” on their resumes’ and job applications!
